Hydrography and geophysics ensure navigation, which is one of the priorities of the ports and organizations managing France's waterways. France has the largest network of inland waterways in Europe, 6,700 km of canals and rivers throughout the country. This large network requires daily maintenance, development and improvement. 3,000 engineering structures are distributed over the network and require close monitoring by VNF in particular.
